The client wanted their deck rebuilt. The existing deck was two levels, creating lots of useless space. It was also old, worn, ugly and rotting. There was a shed-style roof over half of the deck with a flat pergola extending from the roof over the rest of the deck. The roof was in okay condition despite being ugly, but the pergola was in need of replacing. The client wanted to keep half roof and half pergola, but the whole look was very unappealing and looked awkward with a shed-style roof going into a flat pergola, so we proposed to redesign it. Matwick Project – Custom Cedar and Vinyl Deck

The existing deck needed repaired. It had two areas with severe rot and inadequate stairs missing a railing on either side. We tore the existing vinyl membrane and plywood decking up and repaired the rot. Then replaced the plywood and vinyl membrane and built custom cedar railings using white aluminum balusters and built a very nice set of custom stairs with mitered treads. We also added cedar fascia around the perimeter. All of the new cedar was stained with a custom-matched colour to match the existing soffit colour.

Townsend Project – Clear Cedar Deck Design and Rebuild

The existing deck was in good condition but was poorly designed and poorly built. It was to be made more functional and built to last. After discussing options we went with 5/4×6 clear cedar decking at a 45 degree angle, and 6×6 rail posts with a 2×6 top rail.
